New MacBook Restrictions - No Longer Can Be Sold as New

Lately, there have been a quite a few MacBooks deals available on eBay for the same MacBook - MD101LL/A.  Here is the last example.


The problem with them is that each one usually has 2 separate listings.  One that allows for a sale a "New" item and one that only allows for "Like New".  

I mentioned in each sale that there was always the possibility that Amazon could close the listing that allows for a sale as "New.  This obviously would affect your return.


It looks like Amazon did something slightly different but with the same effect.  This is the email I got from Amazon:

Hello from Amazon.
We have placed listing restrictions for products in New condition on the ASINs listed below. Since you have sold similar products in the past on Amazon.com, your offers may be affected by these listing restrictions.
You may continue to sell through your existing inventory until October 30,2015. After this date you will no longer be eligible to list these products on Amazon.com.
If you are using the Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) service to fulfill orders for these products and have inventory in our fulfillment centers, you may continue to use FBA to fulfill orders for these products placed on Amazon.com until October 30,2015.
If you still have inventory of these products in our fulfillment centers after October 30,2015, you will be able to use FBA Multi-Channel Fulfillment to fulfill orders for these products placed through other sales channels. If you no longer want to fulfill these products through FBA, you can request to have your remaining inventory of these products returned to you at any time.

The listing isn't closed, but now it will be restricted to not allow for a "New" listing.

If you have MacBooks at Amazon already, you can still sell them and they hopefully won't go down in price too much because of this.  If you haven't sent in all your MacBooks, like me, you can try to return them to the seller or you can sell them as "Like New".  I tried to send them in yesterday as New and Amazon wouldn't let me.

Unlocked Cell Phones are a restricted category on Amazon. You need to be ungated for it. HT - Cav.  The original link was a listing for 6 Plus which was categorized a cell phone case, which means that Amazon is likely to shut down that listing since it is trying to get around the restricted listing

You need a professional account ($40 a month) and then you need to be approved to list in this category.


You can try to cancel your order if you ordered already.

The iPhone 6 64GB is on sale on eBay for $600.  It sells for for $750 to $800 on Amazon.  See this for example.  Limit of 5.

I'll be honest here.  I've been a little afraid to sell phones on Amazon so I don't know how quick they sell and I'm a little bit of the blind leading the blind so buy this based off your own research.  I'm just pointing you where to go.

FBA fees are about $67 at a price of $750 which is a takehome of over $680 so you should be able to make a decent amount of money on this even if prices drop a bit.  There are quite a few left so there may be some competition on this one.

$100 Staples Gift Card for $85 - Reselling MoneyMaker

$100 Staples Gift Card for $85 - Limit 3 - this is the same as a previous sale, but it is a new listing so you can buy them again.

These are really great for reselling merchandise from Staples, but also can be used to sell the gift cards.

These can be sold for 86% to Gift Card Mart, but you can only sell to them if you are bulk (minimum $1,000 a month).

Gift Card Mart often has the best rates to buy gift cards from resellers, but they only allow for bulk sellers (to avoid fraud and maintain high rates).  You can retain your bulk seller status through selling $1,000 of gift cards a month, which is relatively low in the industry.

About 16 left so I won't go into everything.  Max 5.

Don't forget Inbox Dollars for 5%.

Not the fastest seller so I wouldn't buy more than 1 or 2.  You won't have too much competition (besides Amazon which can be a pain - don't undercut them - match them).

Sears iPad Reselling Idea

Last night we found out that Discover Deals is now paying out 10% again for Sears purchases.  This leads us to try and find anything worthwhile to resell from Sears.

Even if we could just break even or lose some money on the sale, if we can earn 42-50% from Discover Deals that's very worthwhile.  Please keep in mind that the new T&C exclude gift card redemptions.  We should be safe buying the gift cards, but it is possible that no purchases made with gift cards will get Discover Deals payouts.  Even if the system allows it, if something doesn't track properly, you won't be able to ask for a manual adjustment since it's against the T&C.

Unfortunately, as far as I can tell there is slim pickings at Sears.

Here is one idea.  It isn't amazing, but I think it still worthwhile even if Discover Deals doesn't pay out for gift card redemptions as well.  If they do, all the better!

Trusty iPad method

iPad Air 2 64GB for $532 - That's no a good price

You will earn $5.32 of Shop Your Way Points.  I don't seem to be charged tax.  Shipping is free.

You can currently sell the silver version for about $530-$540 on Amazon with a fee of about $30-$35 and then shipping.  Let's assume that after fees your takehome is $500.  That's a loss of $32 with a negligible gain of SYW points.

If you only earn 30% (10% from Discover Deals and 5% from rotating categories), you will earn close to $160 from Discover ($80 now and $80 in 13 months), or $50 profit now and $80 extra profit in 13 months.  Those are margins over 20%!  Even if you only sell for $520 due to competition you will do just fine.

If you use Discover Deals and you earn 50% cashback back (10% from Discover Deals for purchasing gift cards and 10% from DD for redeeming gift cards and 5% from rotating categories).  You will earn about $250 from Discover, that's actually a margin of 40% which is pretty incredible!

If you don't have a Discover Card, you can use my referral link to earn a $50 signup bonus (doubled after the 13th statement) after your first purchase.

I am a Sam's Club member and I have resold a lot of their products in the past (mostly iPads).  I haven't found too many things there recently but I have my eye on a couple.

You can also earn 5% with Discover Deals which is doubled to 10% if you are participating in the Discover Double Cashback Promotion for Sam's Club purchases (excluding Membership fees).



Right now you can Join Sam's Club for $45 and earn a $20 eGift Card.  You also get a welcome package with a free Rotisserie chicken and other discounts which aren't so useful to me, but may be useful to you.

Bank of America Museums on Us - This Saturday and Sunday

Bank of America Museums on Us program gives Bank of America card holders free access to select museums on the first Saturday and Sunday of the month.  October 3rd and 4thare the dates for this month so that means this Saturday and Sunday are the free days this month. 

Sears is back to 10% at Discover Deals - Up to 50% Cashback on Everything!

It is official, Discover is my absolute favorite card this year. 

I am extremely surprised at this, but Discover Deals is back to a 10% payout for Sears.  This is just in time for a new quarter to earn 5% cashback on up to $1,500 in purchases at Sears.

As Frequent Miler has shown (my own experiments show the same), it is still possible to earn cashback on the purchase of gift cards and a second time when you use the gift cards.  That would bring your total cashback to 25% on the first $1,500 in purchases.

 Since many people are enrolled in the Discover Double Cashback promotion.  The 25% is actually equal to 25% now and 25% in 13 months, for a total of 50% cashback.

It is even possible to earn an additional 10% cashback when purchasing 100% Shop Your Way Rewards items with your gift cards and going through the Discover Deals portal a third time.  That would be up to 70% cashback.  All this has already been outlined in quarter 1 by Frequent Miler and it's all back!
