Use MPX to Almost Immediately Top off Your United Balance

Yesterday, I shared the story of my upcoming trip in which I used hundreds of thousands of miles (still hurts) to save thousands of dollars from leaving my bank account.

One interesting tidbit is that I made a math error while trying to book.

I had 357,993 Ultimate Rewards points and I had 108,993 United Miles.   That's 466,998 miles I could have since I can transfer UR points into my United account.

I needed 510,000 United miles to make the trip happen so I calculated that I was 43,002 short.  I decided that the cheapest and fastest way (I needed to book that day) to get the extra miles was to buy them from United.  They only allow you to buy in 1,000 mile increments so I bought 44,000 miles so I now had 152,993 United miles.  More than enough, right?

The United Shopping Portal is offering bonus points for using their portal before you shop elsewhere.



The bonus is tiered in the following way:

• Spend $150, you will earn 500 bonus miles
• Spend $350, you will earn 1,000 bonus miles
• Spend $700, earn 2,500 bonus miles

United Mileage Plus and Sears.com - 16x Miles Per Dollar

United Mileage Plus members can get 12 miles per dollar spent at Sears.com until the end of Wednesday.  If you are a Mileage Plus cardholder you will get 16 miles per dollar spent.

United Bonus Miles or Free Upgrades - Targeted

United is offering a targeted promotion.  You can either get extra United miles or free upgrades.

You need to enter your United MileagePlus account number here.

I did not qualify on my account or my wife's account, but maybe you will.

If you qualify, your bonus is dependent on how many times you fly between now and November 15th.


1 Qualifying flight = 5,000 bonus miles or one upgrade
2 Qualifying flights = 10,000 bonus miles or two upgrades
4 Qualifying flights = 25,000 bonus miles or 3 upgrades
