Shop Small in November - $10 off $10 Purchase at Small Business in November

HT - Slickdeals and Danny Deal Guru

Small Business Saturday is gone, but it seems like AmEx replaced it with Shop Small in November.

I can't find a link for enrollment of every card, but it is coming up in the "Offers for You" section when you login to your account.  If you find a link please let me know so I can publish it.

You will get a one time $10 statement credit on your enrolled card for a single purchase of $10 or more in store at a qualifying small business on the Shop Small May by 11/28/2015.

This will really limit the number of cards I can use since you will need an online account  to get the offer and not every account is targeted.  It's nice that you have a a whole month to do the spending instead of one day on Small Business Saturday.

Follow Offers Bot on Twitter and His Webpage Resource

Recently, there have been a slew of American Express offers available via twitter.  You need to connect your American Express card here to Twitter and tweet the correct # and the offer will be automatically added to your American Express card.

For example, here are a few of the deals recently available.

Gap
Staples
Diapers.com
Office Depot
Best Buy
Dell

@OffersBot is a twitter handle that automatically tweets out the latest #s that are connected to AmEx offers.

That makes @OffersBot useful for knowing the current offers and for automating your twitter handle to tweet out AmEx offers.

In addition, Offers bot also has a very useful website.  You can see all the current #'s that are available to be added to your synced American Express card.  All of the columns are fully sortable.

Just a nice tool to have.

American Express and Diapers.com - $10 off $50 - Excludes $50 Gift Card Purchases Only

So, this is new...

There are a bunch of new offers available via Twitter and I hope to mention them all at some point, but this one is the most interesting to me.

I hope it isn't a sign of things to come, but I think eventually we will get there.

Spend $50 at Diapers.com (and affiliated websites) and get a $10 statement credit.

Tweet #AmexDiapers

Terms and Conditions are here

The most relevant point to me is that if you make a $50 purchase of gift cards, you won't be eligible for the offer, but if you make a $50 purchase of gift cards and purchase something for $2 as well, you are eligible.  This means AmEx (or more likely some merchants are now reporting) is now starting to look into what you buy.  Hopefully it is not a sign of things to come, but we'll see.

The other offers I looked at so far do not include this languate

Offer Valid 8/3/15 - 9/30/15

Offer valid on a qualifying purchase at diapers.com and family of brands: wag.com, soap.com, yoyo.com, beautybar.com, afterschool.com, vinemarket.com, look.com and casa.com. Purchases consisting solely of gift cards are not considered qualifying purchases and are not eligible for the offer. In order to count as a qualifying purchase for the offer, any purchase that contains gift cards must also include other items. If you order an item during the offer period but it is not sent until after 9/30/2015, it may not count towards determining whether the purchase qualifies for the offer.

$100 off $599 at Dell - American Express and Twitter

Update: Max # of enrollments reached.  Important to add these to your cards as soon as possible.

And the Amex hits just keep on coming!

Use #AmexDell or check the "Offers for You" section.  Full terms here

- Not valid on eGift Cards
- Expires 9/15/2015
- Valid at Dell.com

Start your purchase from Be Frugal (referral link) for an additional 5.5% cashback.

There has got to be a way to work this offer, we'll figure that out during a normal portion of the day!

$10 off $50 Purchase at Office Depot/Office Max - American Express and Twitter

Update: As William on DoC points out, the best way to use this is to use 4 AmEx cards to buy one $200 Visa Gift Card.  You will only pay the activation fee once between the 4 cards.  This earns  you $8 per card and free points

Don't have Office Depot/Max near you?  You could buy $50 physical GCs and sell just the pin for 86% to SaveYa.  That would earn you $3 per card.  Either way, this is a great offer to take part in.

And the Amex hits just keep on coming!

Use #AmexOfficeDepot or check the "Offers for You" section.  Full Terms here

- Not valid on eGift Cards
- Expires 9/7/2015
- Valid in store or online

This is a great way to offset the fee associated with a $200 Visa Gift Card.

I will probably use this to get cheap Amazon gift cards.

Start your purchase from Discover Deals or Upromise for up to 5% cashback.  Discover deals will turn into 10% after 13 months if you are enrolled in the Discover Double promotion.  I don't know if you will get cashback for buying gift cards.  T&C exclude these purchases from cashback.

Taking Advantage of American Express Promotions with Authorized Users

Chuck over at Doctor of Credit recently put a post together trying to put a value on American Express cards.  While his valuations were correct at the time, I believe the numbers have increased significantly due to more and more lucrative promotions coming out.

See the following posts for some examples:

$9 per Card at Newegg - Current
$9 per Card at TicketMaster - Currently only $5 per card
$20 off $20 at Sam's Club
$17 per Card at Brooks Brothers
$30 off Your Phone Bill - Current
$75 off $250 at Staples, Home Depot and More X5

To take advantage of these offers, you need to have as many American Express cards as possible.   The promotions either work on every card you have or are targeted and the more cards you have, the greater chance you will be targeted on one or more cards.

The key to unlocking AMEX promotions is Authorized Users.  Unlike most credit card companies, authorized users of cards issued by American Express get their own unique credit card number which means it is like opening a new card in terms of the bonus (unlike Fidelity American Express and Citi AMEX cards where AUs have the same account number on the front and are not eligible for separate bonuses).  American Express allows an inordinate number of AUs.  You can add yourself or someone else multiple times as an AUs to the same credit card.

When adding an authorized user online, you need to enter the person's Social Security Number.  If you call up, you do not need to give them the SSN, though they will probably call you multiple times trying to get the SSN.

If you do this, you will also put yourself in great position for Small Business Saturday, which is the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Some limits:
  1. If you sign up the same person twice at one time, you will approved for one and American Express will send you a letter saying that the second card application is cancelled because it is a duplicate.
  2. Limit of 99 authorized users per credit card account
  3. American Express probably won't like this too much when they figure it out.  Try explaining to a rep why you need to add yourself as an authorized user.  Don't sign up for 99 cards per account. Add a couple per account and you'll be fine.  Remember, it's important to push the limits, but you want to be pushing the limits less than other people.
  4. Excessive numbers of Authorized Users can trigger a Financial Review by American Express.  As long as your provable income matches what you told American Express on your application, a Financial Review is nothing to be afraid of.
  5. Authorized Users on American Express cards seem to affect your credit like a new account does. I don't know the exact affect on your credit, but consider it like a new credit inquiry.

I Bit the Bullet and Applied for the AMEX NBA Card

HT: Doctor of Credit

I kept watching as Doctor of Credit discussed the American Express NBA card.  I have enough credit cards, right!?

At first, the card offered 5% cashback everywhere with no limits during the week of NBA finals and the All Star break but there was an annual fee that wasn't waived ($50). I'll pass.

Next, the annual fee was waived forever if you apply before 6/30/2015 along with a $100 sign up bonus for spending $500 in 3 months. Getting warmer.

Then, Simply Best Coupons times their American Express Gift Card offer to coincide with the 5% of the card. That's pretty good.

Man, I was missing out, but I have enough cards right!?

Well, now they are offering $50 for spending $250 at gas and groceries from June 4th to June 18th(normally 2%) which stacks with the other 5% offer.  I buy a lot groceries (also known as Visa Gift Cards) so combine this with the $100 sign up bonus and that's a very lucrative $250 purchase.

Don't forget about 5% cashback at Serve for the week of the finals (assuming it isn't a cash advance - not sure about that).

Also, it is an American Express card so it is eligible for American Express promotions, like Small Business Saturday.   There is a 4 card limit to AMEX cards issued by AMEX.  This card isn't issued by American Express (payments are processed through AMEX network only) so it doesn't count towards your limit of 4 cards.

So, I applied today for myself and my wife and I was approved.  I'm pretty excited and I now see that I have absolutely no will power when it comes to credit cards ;)

American Express - $30 off Your Phone Bill

Check your American Express "Offers for You" for a $10 cashback offer for paying your bill of $75+ with Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile or US Cellular.  You can get up to 3 $10 credits if you spend $75 three times on the same card.  I have it on 5 cards so I could save a total of $150 if I spend $1,125.

$30 off $300 at Best Buy with American Express - Targeted

Check out the link here to see if you can register for an offer for $30 off a $300 purchase from Best Buy with your American Express card.

Image result for best buy

Update: 12/11/14 -  I went to Best Buy and found Visa Gift Cards and the manager told me that he hasn't seen them in a while and he thought they stopped selling them.  He tried to ring me up and the cards would not scan into the system even though they say Best Buy Visa Gift Card.  Then I looked for Amazon Gift Cards and it seemed that they stopped selling those as well!  I guess you have to actually buy merchandise, oh well.

What you can buy from Best Buy:
- Electronics
- Amazon Gift Cards - Usually in the form of Kindle Gift Cards, which can be used for anything on Amazon
- Visa Gift Cards - $200 variable load cards.  Try to buy 3 and split the payment among two American Express cards.

$300 can be reached on multiple purchases as long as it is before 12/31/2014.  I have successfully registered the first two cards I have tried.

For every $250 you spend at Best Buy you will also get a $5 Best Buy gift card if you are a Best Buy Reward Zone member, which is free to join.  The $5 gift certificates can be used to buy Amazon gift cards.

Lots of Free $20 Amazon Gift Cards Available Through Adding Credit Cards to Softcard - Ends in 2 days

From now until the end of the month (2 days), Softcard will give you a $20 Amazon Gift Card for adding participating credit cards and making one purchase of any amount.  American Express, Chase and Wells Fargo cards are the only ones accepted right now.

Softcard is a mobile wallet payment system that uses NFC technology.

In order to add American Express cards to Softcard, you have to log in to your American Express account from the Softcard app.  This limits how many cards you can add because you are only allowed to add cards from one account.  However, there is a workaround.

Once you have made a purchase on your card, go to americanexpress.com/softcardremoval and remove each of your American Express cards from Softcard, now you will be able to log in to a new American Express account from Softcard and add those new cards for more free gift cards.

Hurry, this will only last until the end of the month.  I have already been emailed some Amazon Gift Cards for my first purchases.

Almost Limitless Supply of American Express Authorized Users - The Key to Extra Free Money!

American Express runs promotions all the time.  One day a year, for the past 3 years, they have had a wonderful promotion called Small Business Saturday.  This promotion allows you to spend money at a small business and get a statement credit back.  This year, the promotion allows you to spend up to $30 and get a $30 credit if you play your cards right.  I will be eligible for over $1,000 of credits this year and I'll explain how.

Now that you know that every American Express card is worth $30 this year, how can you get more?  Obviously, you can sign up for more cards.  If you are only interested in promotions, I recommend AMEX cards that have no annual fee.

The problem with signing up for more cards is that AMEX  limits you to 4 credit cards per account so that can only take you so far (charge cards do no count towards the 4 card limit).

The answer is Authorized Users.  It's nice to add your spouse to your account and you to your spouse's account, but we can do better!

An Almost Limitless Supply of Authorized Users

What if you could add lots of Authorized Users to your accounts?  I'm here to tell you that you can. You can add whoever you want as an authorized user, all you will need is their Name, Address, Birthday and Social Security Number.

What if you could add lots of Authorized Users on your account without knowing lots of social security numbers?  I'm here to tell you that you can.  There are reports of people adding authorized users over the phone without needing SSN.

What if you could add lots of Authorized Users online without knowing lots of SSNs and without adding lots of people to the account?  I'm here to tell you that you can and this is the best part.

If You Only Read One Part, Read the Next 3 Paragraphs

I found this out by mistake, but here is an interesting nugget about American Express.  You can add your spouse (or anyone else) as an authorized user on your account.  When you are done, you can add your spouse again as an authorized user on your account.  When you are done, you can add your spouse again as an authorized user.  I could keep going, but I think you get the point.

Interestingly enough, it doesn't end there.  When you are done adding your spouse, you can add yourself as an authorized user on your account.  When you done adding yourself, you can add yourself as an authorized user on your account.  You probably get the point again.

Every time you add yourself or your wife to the account, you will get another credit card with a new account number.  There are no new annual fees for the new cards, but each card is eligible for promotions separately.

Limits

Some limits to this practice:

American Express Shop Small - $5x3 Credit in Houston, Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Philadelphia, Sacramento

American Express is running a mini Shop Small promotion in a limited number of cities.  Eligible cities include Houston, Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Philadelphia, Sacremento

If you spend $5 or more you will get a $5 credit.  Each registered American Express card is eligible for 3 credits.  Registration starts August 1st 2014 and the spending must take place during August.

Online purchases will not qualify.

Every American Express card with a unique account number will count as a separate card for this promotion, including authorized users on American Express branded cards.   American Express cards that are branded by other companies (like Citibank and Fidelity) will only receive one credit per account.  Serve cards are eligible, but all other prepaid cards are not eligible.

Offer terms

American Express randomly runs great promotions so I like to have as many American Express cards that have no annual fee as possible.

Hopefully, as the date gets closer, we can figure out a store to call that will process a useful credit.

$25 off $25 Purchase at Costco with American Express

Check your American Express "Offers for You".  You might find a $20 off a $20 purchase from Amazon or a $25 off $25 purchase from Costco.  Costco offer is only in store and can be used on Membership.  I am not a member of Costco, but I look forward to taking their stuff and not paying for it.  Thank you American Express!

American Express "Offers for You" can really add up over time so make sure to check regularly.

If you have the offer on multiple cards, don't connect it to one of the cards right away.  Open up americanexpress.com in separate tabs and get the offer open on all of your cards, then click on the offer for all the cards.  If you don't do this, the offer will disappear from your other cards one you click on it once.  I was able to get the Costco offer on three separate cards so good luck to you

American Express - $10 off a $50 Purchase of Grocery Stores in NY/NJ/CT

Select cardmembers have a offer for a $10 statement credit if you spend $50 or more at a grocery store in NY, NJ or CT.  You can find the offer in the "offers for you section" when you log in to AmericanExpress.com

If you have the offer and connect it to your card (unfortunately I don't have it), you can get up to 3 $10 credits when you spend $50 or more 3 times.

If you have the offer on multiple cards, don't connect it to one of the cards right away.  Open up americanexpress.com in separate tabs and get the offer open on all of your cards, then click on the offer for all the cards.  If you don't do this, the offer will disappear from your other cards one you click on it once.

You can load up on gift cards (to the grocery store or elsewhere) in $50 increments to stock up on 20% off.

From the Amex Details:

Where you can redeem your offer

For the purposes of this offer, a “supermarket” is a store whose primary business comes from the sale of a variety of foods such as meat, fresh produce, dairy, canned and packaged goods, but also sells a variety of household products, pharmacy products and pet supplies.
The following are NOT considered supermarkets:
  • Specialty food stores such as a standalone cheese shop, butcher, or bakery
  • Small corner grocery stores
  • Gourmet shops
  • Convenience stores
  • Drug stores
  • Natural food stores
  • Large superstores including warehouse clubs, big box stores, supercenters, hypermarkets, and megastores whose primary business comes from the sale of items such as toys, electronics, furniture, clothing, sporting goods, household products, office supplies and beauty supplies, and which may also sell food in a space that is typically less than half the total store size
