In celebration of Mother's Day, Southwest Airlines is offering one free alcoholic drink to every customer (not just Moms) today.  May 25th is Memorial day and you can get another free drink that day which is later this month.

There are a few other days as well when you can get a free drink on Southwest:

Southwest Rapid Rewards - Refer Friends and Earn up to 2,000 Miles - Targeted

Southwest Rapid Rewards sent out targeted emails allowing you to refer a friend to Rapid Rewards.

Each referral earns you 500 miles.  You can earn a maximum of 2,000 miles for 4 referrals.  Bonus points do not count towards A-List, A-List Preferred or a Companion pass.

The person you refer also gets 250 miles as a sign up bonus.

If you buy from Walmart, according to Cashback Monitor you can start your shopping at Discover Deals (requires a Discover Card) or UPromise for 5% cashback, Top Cashback for 4% and Southwest Rapid Rewards Shopping for 3 miles per dollar.  Pick whichever suits you best.  It's not going to make much of a difference if you are just buying a $2 item, but sho



Keep in mind that Southwest is having a shopping portal bonus, but this isn't going to get you much closer.

WSJ: Best Airline Miles Availability

The WSJ published a survey of airlines and tried to figure out which airline had the most availability to book flights with their miles.

Not surprisingly, Southwest Airlines, Jetblue and United all came very close to the top and US Airways and Delta all the way at the bottom.  This should affect the way you try to accumulate miles.  What's the point of miles if you can't use them.
