These are really great for reselling merchandise from Staples.  You know what to do.

These are Digital gift cards sold by PayPal Digital Gifts so you will receive 2% cashback from ShopAtHome.com and you should receive 5x Ultimate Rewards points as well so you are not sacrificing anything with that.

No brainer unless you want to wait for increased eBay Bucks.


There is a limit of something close to $1,000 of gift cards bought from PayPal Digital Gifts in any 30 day period and this will count towards those limits.

These are really great for reselling merchandise from Sears, but also can be used to sell the gift cards.

These can be sold for 84% to ABC or Cardcash.  so you will lose 1% on the sale but you earn cashback from your credit card, eBay Bucks and 1.25% from Top Cashback. Shop at Home is 2% but doesn't allow for cashback on physical gift cards.  You might be able to use a match from TCB to get 2% :)

These are sold by Gift Card Mall so they are physical gift cards and you won't get 5x Ultimate Rewards with Chase INK.

Staples Black Friday Deals - iPad Mini 4 for $299 ($100 off)

Staples has released their ad for Black Friday.  Sales start on Thursday online.  Take a look at it.  It's quite interesting and I've identified a few products, but here is a deal that everyone can get in on.

It is the first legitimate sale on an iPad mini 4.

They are currently selling for $400 (full price) on Amazon and they probably won't move far from that.

I Think Discover is Just Guessing - Brilliant but Bad Customer Service

Earlier tonight many of us received emails from Discover saying that purchases made with gift cards are excluded from 10% Apple Pay bonus.

The problem is that many people, including myself, received these emails multiple times when our receipts clearly show that gift cards were not purchased.  I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Discover doesn't actually know what you bought but they are sending out the emails anyways.


So why is Discover doing this?  It's actually brilliant. If Discover doesn't have the ability to know whether you purchased a gift card, they assume you did if you spent a lot of money repeatedly within a short period of time.  Anyone who complied with the terms can submit a receipt and receive their deserved cashback.  Anyone who didn't comply, well they didn't comply with the terms so they won't be getting their cashback. Guilty until proven innocent.


Here's the problem.

1) It's really annoying.  I have to do extra work even though I complied.  Not good customer service.

2) Some people don't keep receipts.  What are they supposed to do?

Update:  Discover is also sending out emails that give one time courtesies.  I don't really know what to make of that and who gets what.  I received both and only received one one time courtesy, though others report multiple one time courtesies.

Holy Cow!

I just got an email from Discover that said the following:

I assumed Discover would not have the ability to see what you purchased.  Apparently I was wrong!  It's a good thing I've been mostly doing merchandise reselling with it!


I have many such email from Discover.  I don't remember buying so many gift cards, but it is possible.  I will have to go back and look at my transactions and possibly submit receipts.  We'll see how this develops. It could be that they are sending emails to anyone who is consistently spending a lot of money with Apple Pay.  The logical explanation being they are buying gift cards.  Already some readers are saying that they received the email and never bought a gift card with Apple Pay.

You are hereby forewarned!  Keep your receipts when you Apple Pay!

If you can't think of what to buy on eBay and you don't want your 4x eBay Bucks to go to waste, you can buy Staples eGift Cards from PayPal Digital Gifts on eBay.

There is a maximum of 5 Staples Gift Cards that you can use on any purchase.  They sell denominations as high as $100 on eBay so be aware of that.

You will earn 8% eBay Bucks and 5x Ultimate Rewards points if you use Chase INK so there is little downside if you know you can use the gift cards.  You should also earn 2% from ShopAtHome.com. Physical gift cards excluded from cashback, but eGift Cards are not.

You can always buy an iPad (or 2!) this week from Staples since they are on sale and it can really juice up your margins.  You will still earn your regular Staples Rewards and portal points when you pay with gift cards.

eBay is selling a iPad Air 2 64GB for $490.No limit as of now.  There are about 225 Silver and 1 gold version left as of this writing.  I know that there are taxes in NY, NJ and CA which kills it for me.  Check to see if you have taxes.
